A Novel RID Algorithm of Muon Trajectory Reconstruction in Water Cherenkov Detectors

چکیده
Abstract Cosmic rays that strike the top of Earth’s atmosphere generate a shower secondary particles move toward surface with relativistic speeds. Water Cherenkov detectors (WCDs) on ground can detect charged muons, which are one many generated in shower, imaging technique. A large number these muons travel WCD tanks near speed light vacuum, faster than water, and so trigger isotropic radiation, is detected by photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) placed inside tanks. When radial component muon PMT drops from superluminal to subluminal, records an optical phenomenon known as image doubling (RID), causes two images same appear suddenly, both moving geometrically opposite directions original track. The quantities associated RID effect be measured experimentally variety detector types used find various points trajectory muon. In this paper, detailed study reconstructing entering using technique has been presented. It found measurements standard observables enables complete reconstruction high degree accuracy less 1% error.

In this review we rst address 2 questions: why do we need kilometer-scale muon and neutrino detectors? what do we learn from the operating Baikal and AMANDA detectors about the construction of kilometer-scale detectors? I will subsequently discuss the challenges for building the next-generation detectors. The main message is that these are diierent, in fact less ominous, than for commissioning ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Wavelength Shifters on Water Cherenkov Detectors
In recent years several experiments have been planned to measure the proton lifetime and, among those under construction, some detectors [ 1 3 ] use large amounts of water as a source of protons and Cherenkov light (CL) for detection of p-decay products. The dynamical interpretation of the events and the vertex reconstruction are the main problems in water Cherenkov detectors; these problems ca...

High energy γ-ray astronomy has been established during the last decade through the launch of the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO) and the success of its ground-based counterpart, the imaging atmospheric Cherenkov technique. In the aftermath of their important and surprising scientific results a worldwide effort developing and designing new generation atmospheric Cherenkov detectors is unde...

The ANTARES neutrino telescope is presently being built in the Mediterranean Sea at a depth of 2500 m. The primary aim of the experiment is the detection of high energy cosmic muon neutrinos, which are identified by the muons that are produced in charged current interactions. These muons are detected by measuring the Cerenkov light which they emit traversing the detector. Sometimes a high momen...
